There will be no ferry service between Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin until next Sunday, September 20. This announcement was posted online by the management of Voyager Saint-Barth. “We have unfortunately just been informed that the Makana, the vessel Voyager had chartered to provide service between Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy while the Voyager 3 Dreamliner is undergoing dry dock maintenance, has suffered a technical malfunction,” the announcement states. “This breakdown forces us to cancel all of our crossings until the Voyager 3 Dreamliner returns, currently scheduled for Sunday evening.”
The vessels of both ferry companies—the Voyager and the Great Bay Express—are currently undergoing dry dock maintenance. “We are fully aware of the difficulties this situation may cause, particularly for residents with medical appointments, flight connections, or essential travel,” writes Voyager. It was precisely to avoid an interruption in service during our vessel’s mandatory dry docking that Voyager had chosen, at its own expense, to charter a replacement vessel. Unfortunately, its breakdown now leaves us without an alternative maritime solution. ” The company specifies that “all affected passengers” may choose to receive a full refund for their tickets for canceled trips or to convert their tickets to “open” status, valid for twelve months.
For travelers, options for making the trip between Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy through Sunday are now limited. They will need to use a private shipping company or find a flight on a local airline. In both cases, fares will be higher than those charged by ferry companies.
