Air traffic is high but stable

One year follows another, and they all seem the same. At least that’s the case for Saint-Barthélemy Airport. The airport’s performance report shows high passenger traffic during the first four months of 2026. However, the figures remain stable compared to the previous year.
By the end of April, 109,213 passengers had been recorded. This represents a slight increase of 2.15% compared to 2025. While passenger traffic in January saw a slight decline compared to last year (-1.72% with 26,341 passengers), the months of February (+1.28% with 25,590 passengers), March (+6.09% with 30,805 passengers), and April (+2.59% with 26,112 passengers) all showed an increase.
On average, 27,306 passengers passed through Saint-Barth Airport each month. This average traffic was distributed as follows during the first four months of 2026: 12,966 arrivals and 14,340 departures. The busiest day was recorded on March 21, with 1,496 passengers and 346 aircraft movements.
In addition, the cumulative average for cargo transported stands at 21.2 tons per month. So far, the record for this first part of the year on a single day was set on February 19, with more than 3.4 tons of cargo.

Winair in the lead but down
As for airlines, Winair (Windward Islands Airways International) remains far ahead in passenger transport. However, as explained in the previous issue of the JSB (No. 1664) and with the exception of stable activity in March, a significant decline in passenger numbers compared to 2025 has been observed since the start of the year. - 8.40% in January with 11,215 passengers, - 11.21% in February (10,989 passengers), and -12.63% (10,554 passengers) in April. This decline in ridership is linked to several factors, including growing customer dissatisfaction with deteriorating services.

Rising Passenger Numbers for Commuter and Executive
Four airlines occupy the following positions in the “ranking.” Tradewind Aviation LHC is firmly in second place with an average of 5,284 passengers during the first four months of the year. This average remains stable compared to 2025, despite a sharp drop in passenger numbers in March (-9.93%).
Conversely, both Saint-Barth Commuter and Saint-Barth Executive have seen their customer numbers skyrocket. The former has recorded an average of 4,282 passengers since the start of the year, with significant increases compared to 2025: +22.55% in January, +24.59% in February, +27.55% in March, and +33.88% in April. The same trend holds for Saint-Barth Executive, with a monthly average of 2,163 passengers and impressive increases compared to 2025: +31.60% on average.
While SXM Airways carries fewer passengers (an average of 1,825 per month), it has attracted far more than in 2025. To the point where its numbers have literally “skyrocketed”: +18.17% in January, +108.61% in February, +74.34% in March, and +169.24% in April! This increase can undoubtedly be seen in parallel with the decline in passenger numbers recorded by Winair.

Juliana, a key connection
The largest number of connections to Saint Barthélemy is via Princess Juliana Airport in Sint Maarten. On average, traffic totaled 17,025 passengers during the first four months of the year. San Juan Airport in Puerto Rico ranks second with an average of 5,077 travelers. Next are Raizet Airport in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, and Grand Case Airport in Saint Martin, with monthly averages of 1,996 and 1,547 passengers, respectively. Next, with significantly lower traffic, are C.J. Lloyd in Anguilla, C.E. King in St. Thomas, Golden Rock in St. Kitts, and other smaller airports.
