Number of rooms, number of employees, what's new, upcoming events - the JSB offers a detailed review of the island's hotels at the start of the season.
Their opening coincides with the start of the tourist season. As key players in Saint-Barthélemy's economic life, hotels attract and welcome customers who then travel around the island for the duration of their stay. To present the establishments, the JSB contacted the association of hotels and villas, to be sure of getting in touch with all the departments. Among the five-star hotels, only the Tropical in Saint-Jean failed to respond. With the exception of rates, which were collected from hotel websites and which all vary according to the time of year and the offer selected, all information was supplied by the establishments.
For the record, Saint-Barth's hotel portfolio comprises eleven luxury establishments with 425 rooms, or 78.1% of the total hotel offering. Ten other hotels complete the portfolio, with a total capacity of 544 rooms. In 2022, the average occupancy rate was estimated at 68.1% throughout the season (source: Iedom report for 2023), with an average length of stay of 5.5 days. Over 40% of customers who stayed in Saint-Barth in 2023 had been to the island before.
Also in 2023, the tourist tax on tourist accommodation recorded record amounts, with more than 15.9 million euros collected. According to Iedom data, the hotel sector accounted for 53% of this total, or around 8.4 million euros. Villa rentals contributed the remaining 47%.
Finally, according to figures provided by the Collectivité territoriale to Iedom, 1,113 villas were available for seasonal rental on the island in 2023. This represents more than 4,570 rooms. Meanwhile, France's tourism development agency (Atout France) counts some 3,900 accommodations on Saint-Barthélemy offered through online rental platforms.
