Mini Bucket: Four days of regattas for young sailors!

The competition is eagerly anticipated by all the young sailors on the island. The Mini Bucket kicks off this Thursday, May 13, and will bring together sailors from Guadeloupe, Sint Maarten, Saint Martin, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Barth until Sunday. Not to mention a team from Monts-des-Accords Middle School in Saint Martin. The field should have been even stronger, but the constraints (and especially the fares) imposed by the airlines prevented teams from Guadeloupe and Martinique from affording the pleasure of coming to compete in the waters of Saint Barthélemy. Much to the chagrin of Cindy Brin, an instructor and skipper at the Saint-Barth Yacht Club sailing school. Especially since the organizers had gone to great lengths to find accommodations for all visitors, both children and adults.
About thirty young sailors will still be competing for four days. On Optimists with sailors aged 9 to 15, on ILCA (formerly Laser) for those 13 and older, and on RS Fevas for those 11 to 13. Many of the participants have one goal in mind: to qualify for the French championships.
The first race will take place this Thursday. Through Saturday, competitors will be on the water from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to compete in regattas on “set courses.” This means they will have to sail and maneuver around buoys. On Sunday, they will set out at 9 a.m. on a coastal race that is sure to be demanding. This final event will be followed by the awards ceremony at 2 p.m. Hopefully, there will be a few medals for the young sailors from Saint Barth!
