Soccer - Women's Team Wins in Saint Martin

It was a friendly match, to be sure, but an important one. For the Saint-Barthélemy women’s soccer team, the game played on Saturday, June 20, at Vanterpool Stadium in Marigot, Saint Martin, felt like a rebirth.
In fact, the island’s women’s team had been inactive for several years. This was due to a lack of players, availability, and other factors. However, thanks to the determination of a few soccer enthusiasts and with the help of the Territorial Olympic and Sports Committee, a team was finally able to be reconstituted. This led to their playing a match on Saturday, June 20, against a selection of players from Saint Martin.

The match took place in the middle of the afternoon in front of a few dozen spectators. Under challenging conditions—particularly due to the poor quality of the field—the Saint-Barth players held their ground and kept pace with their opponents from Saint Martin. Better yet, they managed to open the scoring through Pierina Gréaux and secure a 1-0 victory. As for Amanda Laplace, she was named the game’s best player.
“I’m really proud of her,” said Aurélie Soucy, project manager at the CTOS. “We’re delighted to have been able to organize this event in partnership with the Saint Martin Soccer League. We’re eagerly awaiting the return match in Saint-Barthélemy!” That match could take place in late October, as part of Pink October.
