Saint Martin / Justice: Two Cases Involving Louis Mussington Have Been Dismissed

The week in court for the president of the Territorial Collectivity of Saint Martin was shaping up to be a busy one. But Louis Mussington had two of his cases postponed to later dates. On Monday, October 5, the elected official was summoned to appear before the Saint Martin court to answer charges of “illegal conflict of interest.” The case involves, in particular, the alleged illegal hiring of several members of his family between 2022 and 2024 by the Territorial Collectivity of Saint Martin. The first case was postponed until January 11 at the request of Louis Mussington’s attorney, Dominique Nicolas. The elected official did not attend that hearing. According to the Soualiga Post, the court informed President Mussington’s counsel that it “particularly” wished for him to appear on January 11 so that he could respond to the charges against him in the courtroom and in the presence of journalists.
On another day, Wednesday, October 7, Louis Mussington faced yet another case. This time, he was summoned to appear alongside his four vice presidents: Michel Petit, Bernadette Davis, Dominique Democrite Louisy, and Alain Richardson. But once again, none of the defendants deigned to appear before the court. All are being prosecuted for favoritism and embezzlement of public funds. They are accused of having each benefited, “outside any legal framework,” as reported by La 1ère, from one or two official vehicles. The financial loss to the local government is estimated at nearly 260,000 euros. The attorneys for the five defendants filed a motion to adjourn the hearing, which was granted by the judges after the hearing was temporarily suspended. The case has been adjourned until January 13.

A promising start to the year lies ahead for the president of the Collectivité of Saint Martin, two months before the territorial elections on March 14.
