For the past two weeks, sargassum strandings have become less frequent in Saint Barthélemy. In some areas of the island, they have even stopped entirely. This situation is not expected to last, according to the monitoring bulletin published on May 28 by Météo France. According to the bulletin, “the rafts are fairly small and more or less scattered, but appear to cover a significant portion of the ocean for miles to the east.” In the coming days, these rafts are expected to “continue washing ashore in small, successive waves along the coastline exposed to the current.” Furthermore, Météo France notes that “accumulations may occasionally be locally significant.”
Over the next two weeks, Météo France does not foresee “any real improvement” and states: “The succession of arrivals and very regular strandings will continue.”
