“We walked a lot, visited museums, saw the Obelisk, the White House, and we even saw a Trump lookalike!” At nine years old, Lorena is still in awe of her school trip to Washington. Like sixteen of her classmates in the fourth-grade class at Saint-Joseph School in Lorient, she spent five days exploring the U.S. capital. Without their parents—a first for the vast majority of the children. When asked if being away from home was too hard, Lorena and her friend Mia answer instantly and in unison: “No!” This likely explains why the accompanying adults were just as thrilled as their students by this American experience.
Teacher Thomas Rebut recounts: “There were no hiccups, and the group got along very well. The museum visits seemed to interest everyone, but for the children, the most memorable part was undoubtedly seeing all the people around them—in the subway, on the streets. These are things they aren’t used to in Saint Barth. ” The teacher affirms: “For schoolchildren, Washington is an exceptional destination. It feels like a grand buffet of history.” From which the students of Saint-Joseph served themselves with relish. “Even the hotel was very nice,” Lorena assures us. So, even if the boys sometimes acted up, there’s no doubt this trip will remain unforgettable.
