In the schoolyard, the children lift a large sheet while their classmates rush underneath it. Further away, other children joyfully start a game of tag. On this Thursday, March 19—St. Joseph’s Day—the 200 students at Lorient are celebrating their school’s patron saint through games and workshops. “All together around the theme of solidarity,” emphasizes the school’s principal, Géraldine Cointre.
For this day, all the classes have been mixed together. The older students accompany the younger ones from workshop to workshop, hand in hand. And while some groups are having fun in the courtyard, others are participating in activities in and around the classrooms. In one, the students are excited during a unique “blind test”: they have to recognize their teachers’ voices. Upstairs, about twenty students are working on designing a large mural. Their classmates will take over a few minutes later. To go sing in a classroom, listen to stories in French and English, or continue a big workshop involving cutting, pasting, and coloring.
A joyful and entertaining Saint-Joseph’s Day, filled with camaraderie and learning.
