David Desiage had his work cut out for him as the new principal of Mireille Choisy secondary school. In the absence of a vice-principal, he had to pull out all the stops. An exercise he clearly didn't relish. And, as he explains: "I benefited from the excellent quality of the handover by the outgoing team, made up of Madame Dubois and Monsieur Seys. Not to mention the very warm welcome I received from the staff.
Aged 54, David Desiage worked in Vichy, where he is originally from, then from 2007 to 2021 in Guadeloupe, in various establishments. "Rural or urban, varied, but mostly large structures," he explains. David Desiage arrives from Saint-Martin, where he held the position of principal at the collège du mont-des-Accords for four years. This is a school with almost a thousand pupils a year (412 at the collège this year, including those from the apprentice training center, editor's note), and is classified as a priority education zone. A very different profile from Mireille Choisy's, therefore. Here we have beautiful, well-equipped classrooms, with everything we need to succeed," says the new principal with satisfaction. Last year's figures are good, and the number of students at the apprentice training center continues to rise, with 78 enrolled. He admits that the prospect of managing a smaller structure than in Saint-Martin, with the addition of a CFA and a second year class, appealed to him.
On the face of it, the start of the new school year went off without a hitch. However, the rectorat still has to appoint an assistant principal, and find the two teachers who were still missing on the first day of school. One in history-geography, the other in French. A search and recruitment process in which David Desiage, in addition to all his other duties, is taking an active part.
