Saint-Barth -

A calm start to the new school year for the Gustavia school group

While the school year came to a festive close at the Gustavia school group (JSB 1622), the vacations are starting with the virtual certainty of a calm start to the new school year in September. Admittedly, several departures have been announced and recruitment is underway. But procedures already seem to be on track.
Three teachers will not be "present" at the September call. They are Anna Pasquet, Sophie Bourrin and Amaël Reynaud. Two Atsem (agent territorial spécialisé des écoles maternelles) are also leaving the school: Gwendolen de Sousa and Léana Gréaux. Recruitment has begun for the Atsem positions, while two fulltime teachers are expected, plus three contract teachers.
On the other hand, the bilingual "profile posts" (POP) scheme came to an end this year. "But the Collectivité territoriale has offered to finance one or more English speakers," reassures headmistress Agnès Combin, who has just completed her first year in Saint-Barthélemy. A joyful and satisfying year. The school group welcomed 406 pupils in 18 classes on our three sites," she explains. We had a teacher in front of each class all year, even if we were short of substitutes. "The headmistress also confides that she hopes the school will be able to "function more harmoniously" by 2025-2026.
On the thorny question of housing, Agnès Combin points out that "requests have been taken into account" by the Collectivité territoriale. As a result, teachers should have a roof over their heads by the start of the new school year.
In between smiles and well-deserved vacations, the headmistress sees a flock of schoolchildren arrive unexpectedly in her office. They are the children from the bilingual class who have come to give her a plant as a gift. Although not everyone agrees on the frequency of watering, Agnès Combin is delighted to receive this latest gift. It's proof of how well the past year has gone.
