On Monday October 13, from 8.30am to 10.30am, Gustavia schoolchildren will be running in the streets around their school as part of the "Mets tes baskets et bats la maladie" operation. The event is now held every year in support of the Ela association. Founded in 1992, Ela's mission is to combat the genetic disease leukodystrophy. In addition to being rare, this disease is progressive. "Mets tes baskets et bats la maladie" is one of the events organized to raise public awareness of leukodystrophy. It also collects donations to fund research. In fact, Ela operates largely on funds raised from the generosity of the public.
"To take part in "Mets tes baskets et bats la maladie" is to walk, run, challenge yourself, let off steam and get some fresh air, while putting your energy at the service of a socially responsible cause," writes the association. Gustavia's schoolchildren will certainly be putting all their energy into the event, as they do every year.
