The fight against addiction takes many forms. In particular, the fight against drug trafficking and consumption. One of the means at the disposal of government bodies and associations is obviously prevention. This approach is far more effective when targeted at young people, who are often the most receptive to messages of caution and protection from drugs. This is why, on Monday January 27, the gendarmerie took action with students in the third and second year of secondary school, as well as with students at the Centretudiants du Centre de formation des apprentis au collège Mireille Choisy is as much about education as it is about public health.
In the morning, two gendarmes, including a dog handler accompanied by his faithful partner Cisco, went to meet the pupils. A meeting that aroused the curiosity of the teenagers and was marked by numerous exchanges. The gendarmes were not only there to remind the students of the dangers of drug use, but also, and above all, to talk about the way they work.
How do you train a sniffer dog? What are the laws and penalties for offenders? Many questions were put to the gendarmes by the students. As for Cisco's demonstration of the search for and discovery of small cannabis sachets, it did not fail to impress the schoolchildren. The school management considers the experience to be "positive" and hopes it will be repeated. The students' curiosity, understanding of the issues and interest convinced them of the relevance of such a meeting.
As a reminder, in the fight against drug trafficking and consumption, the law considers a teenager to be criminally responsible from the age of thirteen. Being found in possession of even a small quantity of drugs is punishable (at the very least) by a fine of 200 euros.
