The UNSS brings together young surfers from Saint Martin and Saint Barth

On the beach in Lorient, in front of the Reefer Surf Club de l’Ajoe’s surf hut, some forty middle and high school students from Saint Martin and Saint Barth are gathered. They have all come together for a school event organized by the UNSS (National Union of School Sports). This marks a first for Saint Barth in terms of surfing. “We’re proud to have been able to make this happen,” says Alexis Klauss, a physical education teacher at Mireille Choisy Middle School. “A surfing program was recently launched in Saint Martin with a team from Robert Weinum High School and Mont des Accords Middle School,” the teacher continues. “There was a first meeting at the beginning of the year in Saint Martin, and the second edition took place in Saint Barth. In collaboration with Ajoe, which made the club’s facilities available to us.” Not to mention the collaboration of the school bus service, which supported the event by transporting the Saint Martin students from Gustavia to Lorient free of charge. “It’s a wonderful first,” says Alexis Klauss. “It will also give the sport a boost in Saint Martin.” Or how to spread the passion for snowboarding through joy and sharing. And who knows, perhaps it will lead to the emergence of new young champions.
