Saint-Barth -

Dix écoliers de l’île ont participé au concours de lecture Micheline Jacques, le jeudi 18 juin, en la bibliothèque territoriale.

Lilou, Grand Prize Winner of the Micheline Jacques Reading Contest

The jury for the 2026 Micheline Jacques Reading Contest has announced its decision. The grand prize winner from Saint-Barthélemy’s elementary schools is Lilou Lagarrigues. She is a third-grade student in Gustavia.
Like the nine other students, Lilou had to read aloud an excerpt from Marie-Aude Murail’s book titled “Le hollandais sans peine.” But she was also evaluated by the jury members (Fanny Giausseran, acting vice-rector; Angèle Peter, library director; Francius Matignon, territorial councilor in charge of educational affairs, and Tom Toussaint, assistant to the acting vice-rector) on her reading fluency, comprehension of the text, articulation and diction, stage presence, and intonation.
The beauty of this contest is that every participant received an award. This is sure to make the woman after whom the contest is named—Micheline Jacques, former school principal and current senator from Saint-Barthélemy—very proud. The awards ceremony will take place at the start of the school year in September.
