When she took up her post as Principal of Mireille Choisy College in September 2021, the mask was still on. Four years later, Emmanuelle Dubois is announcing her departure with an open face. With the same enthusiasm and dynamism that drive her every day.
From Saint-Barth to Hiva-Oa
In September, Emmanuelle Dubois will begin a new school year in French Polynesia, in Hiva-Oa in the Marquesas Islands to be precise. She will be the principal of a school that combines middle school and vocational high school classes. It's a configuration reminiscent of that of Mireille Choisy, who combines middle school, high school with the seconde class, and also a vocational baccalaureate and vocational aptitude certificate at the apprentice training center.
These four years in Saint-Barthélemy have been professionally fascinating," confides Emmanuelle Dubois. I've learned a lot in the course of my work. But I'm happy to be living new adventures. "Particularly when they take her to the island of Hiva-Oa, which may lack drinking water, but whose beauty inspired Jacques Brel and Paul Gauguin. So much so, in fact, that the two artists are eternally reunited there, as they are buried just a few metres apart in the Calvaire cemetery in Atuona.
Ongoing investment
In four years, the principal has spared no effort. Committed and passionate, she has drawn in her wake the school teams, from teachers to administrative staff, not forgetting the parents' association. They have all contributed to creating a synergy that has led to the success of numerous projects, the list of which cannot be exhaustive in these columns. These include the Eduform accreditation of the apprentice training center in 2022 (a CFA that has almost doubled the number of apprentices in four years), the expansion of the premises to include new classrooms and a new school life, in-depth work with the local education authority to stabilize and secure the tenure of staff on the island, the introduction of the "Eduform" system for the training of apprentices, and the development of the "Eduform" program.Erasmus+ international mobility scheme for staff and students, the creation of a winter sports holiday for ninth-graders, and much more.
Not forgetting, since 2023, the implementation of the Pial (Pôle inclusif d'accompagnement personnalisé) to welcome students with disabilities under the best possible conditions. This scheme has also created jobs, with the recruitment of AESH (Accompagnant d'élèves en situation de handicap). For all these achievements and this "wonderful human experience", Emmanuelle Dubois thanks "all the staff, the Apel, the partners and the elected representatives of the local authority". In September, she will be replaced by David Desiage, who until now has held the position of principal at the Mont-des-Accords college in Saint-Martin.
Other departures...
The principal is not the only one to leave Collège Mireille Choisy this "off-season". Stéphane Seys, vice-principal for the past two years, has moved to Le Havre (Normandy) to take up the post of vice-principal at a lycée des métiers (vocational high school) that offers BTS, CAP, bac pro and other courses. "Professionally, it's a great step forward," says the former mechanical engineering teacher, who has taught in France, Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin. At the same time, six teachers have announced their departure, including Fabienne Rouvelou, Alice Gay, Mona-lise Dollé and Alexandre Pelizzari. But as Emmanuelle Dubois assures us, all 26 teaching positions at the school have already been filled for the start of the new school year in September. That's all it will take to accommodate the 342 students already enrolled for the 2025-2026 school year.
When the bell rings in the courtyard on September 1, Emmanuelle Dubois and Stephane Seys will begin a new educational and human adventure. With, no doubt, the same passion they displayed during their years in Saint-Barthélemy.
