Children running around, games, smiles, but also a few tears. Those shed by the teachers at Lorient's Saint-Joseph school, who were about to leave. Principal Laure Gaborit, in particular, couldn't contain her emotion as she broke the news to parents present at the school fête on Friday June 27.
A school teacher since 2001 in the Vendée, Laure Gaborit arrived with her family (her husband and their three children) in Saint-Barthélemy in July 2017. Just before Hurricane Irma hit, in short. A great welcome gift! "We almost left again very quickly because we no longer had a house," recalls the schoolteacher. But the solidarity was such that we stayed. " At Saint-Joseph, she taught CP (cours préparatoire) between 2017 and 2022, then CE2 (cours élémentaires). "As a favor", she took over as head of the school in 2018/2019 before returning in 2022. Since then, she has kept the reins. I'm leaving with a heavy heart because this school has given me so much professionally and emotionally," confides Laure. It's rare to find such a close-knit educational team, and that's the strength of Saint-Jo. You can launch a whole range of projects here, and everyone is always ready to help, with goodwill and dynamism. And we're always there with a smile on our faces! "The same energy with which the party on Friday June 27 was organized and run.
It was also, and above all, about presenting an exhibition on which the whole school had worked. "We traveled to different continents through storytelling," explains the headmistress. Through the discovery of texts from all over the world, written works (stories, presentations...), art education, artistic productions, etc., we were able to discover the different continents. The work of the schoolchildren, from CP to CM2, was thus given pride of place. "They also presented the songs they had learned with Séverine and France Lise", explains Laure Gaborit, who won't be the only one not to be "present" next September when classes start at Saint-Joseph.
Indeed, other teachers are leaving. Substitute teachers Emma Chatelier and Clara Cellerier, Aesh (Accompagnant des élèves en situation de handicap) Lucie Bloino and English teacher Justine Vaslin. Géraldine Cointre, a teacher at Saint-Joseph, will succeed Laure Gaborit as head of the school.
