The event is usually held in August. However, for the third edition of Saveurs Caraïbes, the Tourism Committee has decided to move the event up. This is to ensure greater visibility but, above all, to guarantee a large turnout of the island’s residents at the festival. Thus, the event will take place this Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10. The guest of honor will be the island of Nevis.
This presence will be immediately noticeable upon entering the village, which will be set up on the Quai du Général de Gaulle, in front of the harbor master’s office, in Gustavia. Indeed, the pavilions housing artisans from Nevis (a rum producer, mango specialist Steeve Reid…) and Saint Barth will be decorated like traditional huts, in vibrant colors.

For over a year now, ties between Nevis and Saint Barthélemy have grown stronger. Shelisia Glasford, director of the Nevis Tourism Board, explains the importance of participating in an event like “Saveurs Caraïbes.” “These ties really began to deepen last year, when our Prime Minister, the Honorable Mark Brantley, visited Saint-Barthélemy for an event and met with the tourism board and its president (JSB1599, ed.) Alexandra Questel,” says Shelisia Glasford. “Since then, the two destinations have been working to strengthen this partnership. “We are convinced that Nevis and Saint-Barthélemy share many similarities as luxury Caribbean destinations. Our tourism offerings complement each other perfectly.”
Several initiatives and collaborative projects are currently being developed between the Nevis Tourist Board and the Saint-Barthélemy Tourist Board. Last December, a delegation from Nevis visited Saint-Barth. The trip was marked by an exploration of the island’s hotel offerings and the Christmas market. “Saveurs Caraïbes offers an exceptional platform to introduce the culture, cuisine, music, and talents of Nevis to the residents and visitors of Saint-Barthélemy,” explains Shelisia Glasford. “In addition, the Nevis Mango Festival, which will take place from July 2 to 5, will be featured at Saveurs Caraïbes. We invite Saint Barthélemy to join us for the Caribbean’s most indulgent festival and to sample our 44 varieties of mangoes, as well as the delicious culinary creations of our talented chefs.”
Beyond these culinary and cultural exchanges, the two tourism boards also discussed the creation of multi-destination vacation packages. “We are convinced that these initiatives have the potential to profoundly transform regional tourism,” states the director of the Nevis Tourism Board.
At the village, the Haitian association Tèt Ansanm will provide catering and offer another facet of the Caribbean’s culinary richness. Jackson will offer its Saint-Barth rums, Ralph and Ferdinand their honey, and more. Additionally, the CTTSB has asked the bars in Gustavia to create cocktails with a touch of mango. In short, the weekend promises to be delicious. And quite informal, despite the presence of the “Premier,” Mark Brantley, and representatives from the Nevis Chamber of Commerce.
