The event is almost no longer an event. Last Friday, May 2nd, the President of the Territorial Authority, Xavier Lédée, inaugurated the new Childminders' Center, located in the former sisters' house overlooking the Catholic church in Lorient. A convivial ceremony during which the Territorial Councilor for Social Affairs, Cécile Rubino-Tessier, gave her inaugural speech. While the occasion was intended to be solemn, it is important to note that the Lorient Childminders' Center officially opened on April 1st. The four childminders who work there care for sixteen children (aged 9 months to 3 years) full-time, around twenty including the children (aged 4) who supplement the staff through after-school activities.
The organization's president is Aurélie Moral. She is accompanied by Vice President Marie-Rose Lédée, Secretary Imane Froncel-Gréaux, and Treasurer Nathalie Virlogeux. MAM, an association, is designed to operate with a maximum of six childminders. "There are quite a few of us," smiles Marie-Rose Lédée. "We're settling in and getting to know the new arrivals. I try to support them as best I can." Observing the smiles of the few children wandering between the play and relaxation areas, it seems clear that the children feel at ease within the new structure. However, it took patience for it to see the light of day.
In his speech, President Lédée emphasized that "it's been a long road to get here." The teams and parents were thanked, as was the bishopric. Aside from the fact that finding the property deed was not easy, the renovation work was delayed due to water damage. In total, an investment of approximately €300,000 was necessary to enable the MAM to open, much to the satisfaction of the parents present on the opening day.
