Saint-Barth - effondrement de la chaussée

Une portion de la rue Irénée de Bruyn, devant l’hôpital de Gustavia, est fermée à la circulation en raison d’un risque d’effondrement de la chaussée.

Rue de Bruyn to reopen on Saturday

The rue Irénée de Bruyn should be accessible this Saturday. Since Wednesday September 11, the access road leading to the hospital has been closed to all vehicular traffic. This is due to the collapse of part of the carriageway under the rue du père Irénée de Bruyn, following heavy rainfall on the evening of Tuesday September 10. Since this incident, patients and visitors have been using rue de la Colline to access the hospital from the rear. The terrritorial decree closing this road did not mention the exact duration of the work. Questioned on this issue by JSB on Thursday September 19, the President of the Collectivité, Xavier Lédée, announced that the road was due to reopen this Saturday. " There is a security operation to be carried out, but the risk is not major today", Xavier Lédée stressed. According to the President of the Collectivité, this road, like the road to Vitet which also suffered a collapse, is not considered to be a high-risk area. "There's a building site that's been at a standstill for a long time, so obviously, if we don't make it safe as we go along, it could be damaged", says Xavier Lédée, referring to the hospital road. Above all, this safety work is an opportunity to "make sure that everything is done" on this plot of land under construction, so that the road is not weakened again during a potential meteorological event.

With regard to the Vitet road, the President of the Collectivité confirmed the estimate of 400,000 euros for the work, "the aim being that it should cost less". The work is due to start this weekend, Xavier Lédée assures us, if it is not affected by the legal proceedings launched by the landowner against the Collectivité. The President of the Collectivité did not elaborate on the current proceedings or the nature of the lawsuits. " The aim is not to leave this road closed to the public", insists Xavier Lédée. In the best-case scenario, the road is scheduled to reopen on October 25.
