Saint-Barth -

A day of discovery at the fire station

Looking at the number of visitors to the new barracks of the Territorial Fire and Rescue Service on Sunday 2 March, it is clear that a large part of the population was eager to discover this new structure. Funded to the tune of 15.7 million euros by the Territorial Authority, the new barracks has been home to the Stis firefighters for nearly four months, as well as the Territorial Operational Centre. Last Sunday, several hundred people, adults and children, took advantage of the open house organised by the Stis to spend a few hours inside the barracks. To meet professionals and volunteers, but also to visit the premises and observe the brand new equipment. Sometimes, even, during the demonstrations offered by the firefighters, to try out how to use it. A fun opportunity that the children did not miss when it came to grabbing the fire hose, under the supervision and direction of a firefighter. Trying not to spray the visitors who approached the gates! Visitors were also invited to serve as “guinea pigs” during rescue demonstrations and, for the most curious, to enter the emergency vehicles. Others let themselves be guided through the twists and turns of the fire station to discover the call center, the COT and all the offices and services grouped together within the structure which extends over 2,800 square meters. A beautiful day, despite the rain showers, for adults and children alike.
