Rockslide in front of the commercial port entrance

The incident occurred in the early evening of Thursday November 20. After breaking away from the morne below Fort Gustav, imposing rocks crashed onto the road just opposite the entrance to the commercial port. Fortunately, no road users were passing by at the time. Traffic was halted in both directions until 7.31am the following morning. After the fall, the Collectivité's technical teams were mobilized to break up the rocks and clear the road. The area was closed off and secured by firefighters from the Service territorial d'incendie et de secours, as well as by the gendarmerie. Since Friday November 21, the road has been reopened to traffic, but only in the Public-Gustavia direction. Yesterday, Wednesday November 26, this measure was still in force.
This is the third similar incident (known) to have occurred on the island in recent months. A rockfall also occurred from the morne Depoudré, between Saint-Jean and the Saline crossroads, as well as at the level of the œuf, on the road that runs from La Tourmente to Anse des Cayes and Colombier.
The Collectivité has previously indicated that it plans to call on Guadeloupe's BRGM (Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières) to assess the risks at various sites on the island.
