Saint-Barth - Validation des acquis

Support for the VAE at the CEM

Since February, the Multiprofessional Economic Chamber (CEM) has held Qualiopi certification, which distinguishes training centers. It is now also fully operational in providing support for the Validation of Acquired Experience (VAE).
To support professionals, the CEM is able to leverage various funding mechanisms, such as the Personal Training Account (CPF), as well as other providers like OCAPIAT or AKTO. Two staff members within the Chamber are dedicated to this initiative: Magalie Hodge and Zoé Ciraud. “Today, this program helps meet the needs of people who have skills but not necessarily the corresponding credentials,” emphasizes Grégory Guérot, head of the training division.
Among the professionals who have already expressed interest in pursuing a VAE, Grégory Guérot notes “a wide variety of cases.” He explains: “Some people want to validate their experience, while others seek to enhance their credentials and thereby qualify for a Master’s degree, particularly to secure a salary increase.” "The CEM will not issue a degree. However, it offers support for all procedures and at every stage of the VAE process. Magalie Hodge and Zoé Ciraud serve as the "support architects," as the head of the training division notes.
The CEM offers 26 hours of support for a fee of 3,800 euros. This fee does not include the jury fees, which are set directly by the certifying body. A specific program has also been developed for commercial fishermen to assist them in regularizing their status with the maritime authorities. It includes twelve hours of support (2,000 euros), with potential funding available through the CPF or Ocapiat. The goal is to obtain the “Captain 200 Fishing” diploma.

A Demanding Process
For now, the CEM offers support in three professional sectors: construction, personal care, and accounting. “VAE represents a real opportunity for the residents of Saint-Barthélemy, allowing them to access national diplomas and certifications in a context where continuing education after middle school can be complex,” emphasizes Grégory Guérot.
However, educational outreach remains necessary to clearly explain what a VAE is and what it entails. Indeed, the validation of prior learning and experience is part of a structured and demanding process that spans a period of six to nine months. Thus, while the CEM supports candidates, the bulk of the work falls on their shoulders.
