Organized by the MTPH (Regional Center for People with Disabilities) with support from the Regional Authority and the Department of Social Cohesion, Disability Awareness Week continues through the end of the week. Several events are scheduled.
Lecture by Dr. Olivier Revol
This Thursday at 5:30 p.m., Dr. Olivier Revol will give a lecture at the Harbor Master’s Office in Gustavia. A child psychiatrist specializing in attention deficit disorders with or without hyperactivity, Olivier Revol visits Saint-Barthélemy every year. He does so to monitor the progress of the island’s children but also, as he will this Thursday, to address various topics through a lecture. “Growing Up, Thriving, Living with an Invisible Difference” will be the topic of this late-afternoon event in Gustavia. “Dys, ASD, GID, ADHD… From childhood to adulthood, an inspiring discussion to understand and support uniqueness,” reads the program brochure for the Quinzaine.
Following his lecture, Dr. Revol will hold a book signing for his latest work.
Legal Issues Related to Disabilities
A roundtable discussion on legal issues related to disability will be held this Friday, April 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the harbor master’s office. The goal of this meeting is to provide clear and practical answers to families, caregivers, and individuals affected by a disability—covering legal protection (guardianship, conservatorship, etc.), rights, and support.
“El lobo bueno” at the theater
Before attending the closing concert of the Saint-Barth Livre et Jazz Festival, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Arawak with JP Bimeni, an early evening cultural event dedicated to disability is offered as part of the Quinzaine. At 6 p.m., a performance of “El lobo bueno, raconte-moi le handicap” will take place at the Théâtre du Paradis in Gustavia. “Three characters, five hilarious and touching episodes, a humorous account of the challenges faced at work to break down prejudices and open the doors to inclusive employment”—this is the summary of the show awaiting the audience. Admission is free and open to everyone.
Finally, don’t forget the Handi-Color event on Sunday, April 12 (starting at 7 a.m. at the Saint-Jean stadium), organized by the Handi-Relais association.
