Neighborhood referrers expect responses to their recommendations

Residents of the Saint-Jean district are invited to attend a meeting organized by the Collectivité at the accommodation center this Friday, August 23 at 5pm. The meeting will have several objectives. The main objectives will be to discuss and debate the concerns of local residents. But also, and above all, to obtain answers to the fifteen or so proposals formulated by the neighborhood referents following the completion of a series of surveys at the end of 2023. These proposals are still awaiting feedback from the local authority.
In December 2023, some of the neighborhood referents invested by the Collectivité took the initiative of launching an online consultation of the population. The aim was to gather complaints and suggestions from residents in each neighborhood. Once all the responses had been collected and analysed, a precise roadmap was drawn up to improve life in the neighbourhoods in successive stages. Particularly in Saint-Jean, where residents are invited to meet this evening.

Eight key concerns
The results of a survey of the neighborhood's population revealed eight concerns. Four directly concern traffic issues. Mainly about parking along the public highway, the journey between Saint-Jean and Gustavia, parking or lack of parking for business areas, as well as road safety when leaving festive establishments. Two concerns raised by the consultation relate to environmental issues (stray cats and sewage run-off) and two others to quality of life (noise generated by festive establishments and social precariousness). No doubt these eight subjects will be discussed this Friday evening at the shelter. As will the fifteen or so proposals put forward by residents who responded to the survey.

Citizen suggestions
The first is to "improve operations in front of the Pélican center". In other words, parking, exiting the shops and traffic flow. In the same vein, residents would also like a check to be made to ensure that restaurants have sufficient parking space to accommodate their customers' vehicles. Still on the subject of parking and traffic, they would like to see another crosswalk in front of the Villa Créole, a speed bump at the bottom of the hill going towards Salines, and for restaurant staff to be able to park their vehicles in a safe place.hicles be parked in their own space, a shuttle bus between Saint-Jean and Gustavia be set up, and an entrance lane to the Super U be created.
Other proposals include faster, more effective intervention in the event of a report of uncontrolled drainage, better drainage between Vaval and Pélican, and the provision of access to the water for every hotel and restaurant.lighting and cameras be installed at Grande Savane, and the gates on the Hauts de Saint-Jean road be cleaned. And let's not forget the problems of garbage and wrecked vehicles. Last but not least, better communication on the fireworks program is called for.
Since the surveys were carried out in the neighborhoods, the referents most committed to their mission have not been idle. In Saint-Jean, for example, they have been meeting with all the festive establishments on the bay. With the exception of Nikki Beach, which did not wish to answer the referents' questions, and Eden, which did not respond to their request, all the establishments were visited.Gyp Sea, La Guérite, Nao Beach and Pearl Beach). The full report of these discussions is available on the Facebook page entitled "Les quartiers de Saint-Barthélemy".
The neighborhood meeting will start at 5 p.m. and will be held at the Saint-Jean accommodation center, not far from the territorial swimming pool. The referents and the Collectivité hope to see a large number of local residents in attendance.
