The STV Oosterschelde makes a stopover in Saint Barthélemy

Following the visit of the Swedish training ship T/S Gunilla in March, the historic three-masted training schooner Oosterschelde is also making a stop in Saint Barthélemy.
The Oosterschelde is a historic three-masted training schooner, built between 1917 and 1918. Based in Rotterdam (Netherlands), the Oosterschelde is recognized as the largest restored Dutch cargo ship and is classified as a historic monument, with a 36-meter-high mast and an overall length of 50 meters. The Oosterschelde is not a ship like any other. The last Dutch ocean-going schooner of its kind, it has been carefully restored and preserved as a monument to sailing. Over the past two years, she has undertaken a voyage reminiscent of Charles Darwin’s legendary expedition aboard the HMS Beagle, calling at more than 30 ports around the world and covering over 40,000 nautical miles.
After Saint Barthélemy, the schooner will head to Saint Martin and then set sail this weekend for the Bahamas, followed by the United States, to participate in several USA 250 regattas in various ports. The stopover in Saint Barthélemy was made possible by the Caribbean Sail Training association and the sponsorship of two local companies: Master Ski Pilou and OceanMust. Sunshine Yacht Services is handling the customs clearance formalities free of charge.
