Price-quality shield extended to 2026

The "bouclier qualité prix" scheme introduced in Saint-Barthélemy at the end of 2023 (JSB 1542) has been renewed for 2026. With a few new features and changes. Firstly, Super U will no longer be the only retailer on the island to offer products at moderate prices, as required by the "quality-price shield". Monoprix has also made a commitment to the Prefecture to apply the scheme. Discussions began last year, but came to nothing," explains the brand's General Manager, Rayan El Fekih. But we had to take part, it's important. "
In addition, the list of convenience products has been extended from fifty to sixty items. In particular, products for babies are added to those for food (pasta, rice, salt, oil, coffee, green beans, eggs....), hygiene (toothpaste, deodorant, digital tampons, toilet paper, shower gel...) and maintenance and equipment. All sixty items added up to a total basket value of 140 euros.
Products included in the "quality-price shield" are identified in-store by special labels. And at prices significantly lower than other similar items. Consumers will be able to find the products designated in the "BQP" at the Saint-Jean supermarket (also on some items at the Oasis, in Lorient) as well as at the two Monoprix stores (Saint-Jean and Lorient).
For the record, the scheme introduced in 2012 does not include the island of Saint-Barthélemy. Consequently, as Fabrice Thibier, Secretary General of the Prefecture, points out, the "price-quality shield" in Saint-Barth is based on a "gentleman's agreement" with the retailers. This implies adapting the control system, which may be more coercive in other territories.
Since its introduction in Saint-Barth, the system has met with growing success. Proof, if proof were needed, of the need for a range of moderately-priced products for part of the population.
