Closed to traffic since the rockslides on September 18 from Morne Depoudré, the road leading from Hauts de Saint-Jean to the Petite et Grande Saline crossroads was reopened this Friday, October 3, according to an online publication from the Collectivité territoriale. The same press release states: "Following technical observations made in the Morne Depoudré sector, and in the absence of imminent danger, the road will once again be open to traffic."Questioned at the beginning of the week, territorial councillor Fabrice Querrard declared: "We are awaiting the report from the geotechnician who visited last Monday. We will then know the extent of the work to be carried out, or not. As things stand at present, an initial estimate from the surveyor indicates that the morne would have to be purged of its rocks. If this is the case, the work would take several months. "The Collectivité's decision to open the road to traffic therefore suggests that the geotechnician's opinion is favorable. However, this Friday's online territorial publication states: "In the event of rain, and in application of the precautionary principle, the lane will be closed immediately to guarantee the safety of users."In addition, it is stated that "the Collectivité is working to ensure the long-term safety of this road". As for road users, they are invited "to exercise the utmost caution" when using the lane.
Fabrice Querrard also explained that the Collectivité "will be contacting" the BRGM (Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières) to "work on risk zones" on the island.
