Emergency work on the water network in Anse des Cayes

An "old and severely damaged" water pipe that had "suffered multiple successive breaks." The pipe in question, mentioned in a press release from Saur, is the one that runs from the grocery store in the Anse des Cayes neighborhood to the Le Manapany hotel on Chemin Fond Baptiste. Since Monday, February 2, emergency work to replace the drinking water pipe structure has been underway. This work has deprived several homes of their drinking water supply.
Saur also states that the local authorities have set up a temporary water point accessible to the public. This is "in order to support users affected by the works for the duration of the project," says the company responsible for drinking water distribution on the island.
A ramp equipped with taps has been installed at the sanitary facilities located at the end of the parking lot of the Collectivité hotel in La Pointe. This facility allows residents of Anse des Cayes who no longer have access to the drinking water network to fill cans and bottles with water for their daily needs. This measure will remain in effect until the network is back in service.
In its press release, Saur explains that the condition of the pipe being replaced "is now irreparable" and makes "any ad hoc repairs impossible." It adds that "this work is essential, a priority, and cannot be postponed." Saur does not hesitate to refer to a "major risk to the network." Furthermore, it is specified that "the water supply can only be restored once the new pipe has been completely installed, which is the only sustainable and secure solution."
Traffic disruptions are to be expected in this part of the neighborhood for the duration of the project. While Saur emphasizes its desire to restore water service to all households "as soon as possible," no mention is made of the estimated duration of the work.
