Commemoration of the Armistice of November 11, 1918

The ceremony to commemorate the Armistice of November 11, 1918 was attended by many of the island's inhabitants last Tuesday, in front of the war memorial opposite the Hôtel de la Collectivité territoriale. The speech by the president of the veterans' federation was followed by that of Marie-Hildegarde Chauveau, chief of staff to the prefect of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin. The mayor of Piteå joined the president of the Collectivité in laying a wreath at the foot of the war memorial. Local schoolchildren then sang the Marseillaise to conclude the ceremony.

The public was then invited to discover an exhibition of 25 models created by Patrice Gouard (photo) on the theme of the "14-18" and "39-45" wars. The exhibition is on display until Friday in the marriage hall of the local authority.
