The Collectivité has decided to modify part of the traffic plan in Gustavia. Since Monday, February 23, vehicles have been traveling in one direction without stopping on Oscar II Street, between Samuel Fahlberg and August Nyman Streets. Without stopping, because the stop sign at the intersection with France Street has been removed. However, at the end of the section of Rue de France that runs from Rue du Général de Gaulle to Rue Oscar II, a stop sign has been installed at the intersection. This is on a steep incline. This decision has been met with some incomprehension by many users, who have described it as "unwise." However, the local authority has issued a statement saying: "This new arrangement has been designed to optimize traffic flow while ensuring the safety of all road users." It added: "This measure will be closely monitored over the coming weeks, particularly during the busy period. An assessment will be carried out at the end of the tourist season. " In the meantime, drivers are rediscovering the joys of hill starts. That is, when they don't discover this sometimes tricky maneuver the hard way.
