In the last week of October, eleven firefighters - ten professionals and one volunteer - worked towards becoming "accompanying trainers". This qualification, which they will officially validate in front of a jury in December, enables them to provide training to their colleagues. "The idea is for our team to be more autonomous, so that we don't have to go elsewhere for training, or bring someone in every time," explains Lieutenant Thomas Charmillon, who is currently the only person in the fire station to hold this qualification.
The training is provided by two representatives of the Centre National de la Fonction Publique Territoriale (CNFPT), in partnership with the local authority's training department. Over the course of the week, the eleven firefighters took part in a number of simulations. How do you react in the field when there's traffic? When someone is aggressive? The trainees were confronted with the constraints of everyday life, and were able to consolidate their knowledge of rescue, first aid and firefighting.
