Saint-Barth - Curage lagon baignade interdite

Swimming is prohibited on part of the beach and lagoon at Grand-Cul-de-Sac.

Since January 15, a decree signed seven days earlier by the president of the territorial council has prohibited swimming, water sports, and access to part of Grand-Cul-de-Sac beach. This is due to dredging work on the channel, which has silted up, in order to restore better navigation access to the lagoon. The presidential decree stipulates that the prohibitions will remain in effect until Friday, February 6, inclusive. This is to "ensure public safety during the channel dredging and beach sediment replenishment operations."
The entire left side of the beach and lagoon is affected (see attached map). The decree specifies: "The passage of fishing boats and pleasure craft may be tolerated at reduced speed only with the approval of those involved in the work at sea. " In addition, on the beach, "only the passage of Ouanalao Dive's water sports activities and the passage of boat owners at anchor will be authorized." The document also notes that the work "is likely to generate health and safety risks for lagoon users."
