Saint-Barth - Flamands réunion quartier

Même si peu d’habitants ont répondu présent, la réunion de quartier de Flamands a permis d’aborder de nombreux sujets de préoccupation pour les résidents.

In Flamands, an almost confidential neighborhood meeting

The neighborhood meetings were set up by the Community in June 2023. An initiative supported by the parallel recruitment of volunteers to take on the role of referents with residents. While some meetings attract many residents, particularly when a major topic is discussed, others take place in a more confidential atmosphere. This was the case in Flamands, Friday, November 8, when fewer than ten residents of the neighborhood showed up at the local park at the time of the meeting. A low turnout that did not, however, prevent the representative of the territorial community, Mélissa Lake, as well as the district representative, Alexandra Lédée, from addressing all the topics on the agenda.
Without much surprise, the issue of inconvenient parking was quickly addressed. It remains a persistent subject of concern at Flamands. Despite the efforts made by most local residents, the different options offered to beach users and the measures taken by the management of the Cheval Blanc hotel to ensure that its employees no longer park their vehicles anywhere. "All employees know that they have areas where they have to park," confirms Christelle Hilpron, general manager of the establishment. I won't hide from you that there are always some smart alecks who don't want to walk, but we have a service provider who monitors all that." At the start of the season, the difficulties mainly come from workers working on a construction site. Mélissa Lake wants to be reassuring: the construction site will be completed in the coming days.

Work at the entrance to Chemin de Colombier
Discussions began between the few people present, including two representatives of the gendarmerie brigade, on subjects as varied as the use of surveillance cameras, compliance with the rhythm of depositing and collecting waste, minor everyday incivilities but also the responsibility of parents towards children who are sometimes in the street late in the evening.
There was also talk of the security work that will be undertaken by the Community in the entrance to the Chemin de Colombier. Lasting about fifteen days, they should help reduce the danger of certain areas, without spoiling the site. Because the inhabitants of Flamands rightly note that it is the wild aspect of the place that gives it its appeal. Particularly in the eyes of tourists.
The director of the Territorial Environment Agency, Sébastien Gréaux, is also present to discuss the revegetation project for three beaches on the island: Colombier, Saline and... Flamands. Reproducing the dune, recreating a curtain of vegetation, these are the objectives to slow the rise of the water and prevent the disappearance of the beach. A project that must be carried out between 2025 and 2030.
At nightfall and after having addressed various subjects of concern, the inhabitants separate. With a plate of pancakes under his arm.

Neighborhood representatives gathered in the Collectivité

This Friday, all the neighborhood representatives of the island will meet at the end of the afternoon at the Collectivité hotel. The objective of this meeting is to establish a list of objectives for the year 2025. For example, holding at least two meetings per year and per neighborhood with residents. A goal that will now be achievable since the Community has succeeded in completing its network of referents. The twelve zones are now "covered" by a correspondent, which brings the number of referents to 22.
In addition, a second wave of online surveys will be launched in order to gather the population's opinion on subjects that, until now, were;sent, have not been addressed in this way. This will be the case for the issues of housing, high cost of living and energy.
