Over the past few months, and particularly since the end of the tourist season, the number of roadworks on the island has multiplied. It's a common occurrence at this time of year, but one that never fails to provoke reactions among the population. These reactions are rarely joyful, it goes without saying. Slow-downs and other detour enjoy little sympathy among road users. Be that as it may, in an online publication, the Collectivité's departments were keen to offer a "progress report" designed to provide a clearer picture of the roadworks in progress. "Major operations to modernize and secure the island's network", insists the Collectivité in its publication. Seven projects are described in detail.
At Lurin, the end is nigh
The Collectivité emphasizes that the work is in its final phase. With progress at around 80%. They point out that deadlines are being met for both the replacement of networks (notably electrical and water supply for the reservoir) and the creation of a sidewalk.
Work is scheduled for completion in early November. The worksite has necessitated occasional week-long closures," stresses the local authority. A water cut of seven to ten days is also planned for September. "
Grande Saline - Morne Tourterelle
Work on this first phase is estimated to be 70% complete. The Collectivité insists on the fact that the "delay linked to the non-vote of the CFU (single financial account)" will be made up thanks to a road closure until October 20.
The work involves repairing the road surface, building sidewalks and a retaining wall on the upper section, and redesigning the Tourterelle crossing. Completion is scheduled for early November.
Marigot - Grand-Cul-de-Sac
The third of the four phases of the project is 95% complete for the networks and roads, according to the local authority, which states that the work is "ahead of schedule". It points out that "network work will continue as far as the entrance to the Route du Lagon, while the roadwork will be completed next year".
The aim is to roll out networks (electricity, water, fiber optics) and build sidewalks.
The Belle Normande crossroads will be reopened with half a carriageway by the end of September. Work is scheduled for completion in early November. The Collectivité emphasizes "a year's lead gained thanks to road closures and consultation with neighboring hotels to speed up the networks".
Route de l'œuf - Colombier
According to the local authority, progress on the first of the two phases of work is around 75% for the networks and 60% for the roads (night work on the Tourmente section). The project is progressing "on schedule". The objectives are to reinforce the water network, improve the road network and create a sidewalk.
Completion of the first phase is scheduled for early November. Night work is scheduled from mid-September to early October (2 to 3 weeks), in connection with air traffic.
Malennec descent
"Around 20% of the networks" have been installed during this first phase of work. The local authority claims that the worksite is one month behind schedule, still due to the CFU rejection. "The roadworks have been postponed until next year", it is stated in the Collectivité's online publication.
Once again, the objectives are to improve the road network and install utilities, in particular to supply water to the Lurin reservoir.
Completion of the first phase is scheduled for early November.
Anse des Cayes and Anse des Lézards roads
The work has been postponed until next year, "due to scheduling constraints", explains the local authority.
