From Gustavia to Grand Fond, the construction season is well underway. Road repairs, utility upgrades, infrastructure improvements—the list goes on. But it’s better organized than in 2025, assures Fabrice Querrard, territorial councilor and chair of the Committee on Territorial Development and Modernization. “We’ve learned from last year, when we went a bit overboard,” says the elected official. “This year, the deadline for completing the work is set for October 31.” Fabrice Querrard distinguishes between “small projects” and “large ones.” For example, the project in Grand Fond on Pedro Berry Road (which began in March and is scheduled to be completed by May 30, with the development permit—which had not yet been issued—possibly being finalized by then) involves creating a new road and installing water and fiber-optic networks; this is a small project.
Other projects fall into the “small-scale projects” category. In Petit-Cul-de-Sac, near the Piviers Pond, the road is being repaired with the addition of a sidewalk and the renewal of the water network. On Route de Lurin and Route des Normands in Gustavia, work that could not be completed last year will be finished, including the renewal of various utility networks, particularly the water network supplying the Lurin reservoir. At the same time, work to replace the water networks for the final section of road connecting the seawater desalination plant in Public to the reservoir will be undertaken. The dates for this have not yet been set.
Another “small project” in Merlette: road repairs with the creation of a sidewalk and the installation of various utility lines (water and fiber optics) at the Pierre Blanchard crossing. Finally, during the summer school break, the Collectivité is set to begin renovation work in Gustavia, at the back of the harbor, near Square de la Rétrocession (Pif Paf, Rue Samuel Fahlberg). This will involve creating angled parking spaces to replace the currently tolerated system of parking on the sidewalk. This will include one space reserved for people with reduced mobility and another for deliveries. Next come the “major projects.”
Major construction projects through October 31
First, in Colombier, the project covering the area between L’Œuf and the water tower. It will include the construction of sidewalks and the renewal of various utility networks, notably the water supply network for the Colombier reservoir. It is expected to last until October 31.
Next, in Public on the Malennec descent, work will continue through October 31 to replace the water network supplying the Lurin reservoir.
On the road to Anse des Lézards, also through October 31, road repairs will be carried out with the partial construction of sidewalks where space permits, along with the installation of various utility lines (water and fiber optic). All this while work continues on the water line between the grocery store and the Le Manapany hotel.
In Grande Saline, specifically at Morne Tourterelle, road repairs will continue with the partial construction of sidewalks, the renewal of the water network, and the installation of the fiber-optic network.
Finally, work on the Grand-Cul-de-Sac Road and the Lagoon Road, as well as on the Bobo-Vitet Road (road rehabilitation with the construction of sidewalks and the renewal or installation of water and fiber-optic networks).
Road users should expect some detours.
