Since yesterday morning, a section of the Marigot road has been closed to traffic. The road will remain closed until Saturday, for road repairs and network burial. This temporary closure is in addition to that of the entrance to the route de Vitet, which was blocked following the landslide on Friday July 19. The road will remain inaccessible until work to secure the foundations of the house overhanging the road has been completed. The work could take up to two months, according to the President of the Collectivité territoriale, Xavier Lédée, in a recent press release.
For many local residents, the days of the week will now be counted in kilometers. Those that separate them from the other side of the island. As a direct consequence, traffic in the Cul-de-Sac and Grand Fond sectors is considerably heavier at certain times of day. Sometimes, users forget that they're not on a safe racetrack, but on narrow and, in some areas, particularly dangerous roads. Caution is therefore the order of the day.
