The rainstorms currently crossing the north of the Caribbean arc are set to intensify on Thursday. This weather deterioration obviously has consequences. In addition to the cancellation of the evening's events at the Wall House in Gustavia, the rainfall combined with gusty winds and thunderstorms have been disrupting air traffic since this morning.
Saint-Barthélemy airport manager Fabrice Danet explains: "For the moment, only Saint-Barth Commuter and Saint-Barth Executive, with Air Inter-îles, operated this morning, along with a few charter companies from Sint Maarten. There was a diversion of the Tradewind which had taken off from Puerto Rico and diverted to San Juan, its airport of departure, due to poor weather conditions on the route."In fact, the disturbance arrives from the west and is located between Puerto Rico and the north of the Caribbean arc. On the interactive maps, an imposing low-pressure mass is moving towards Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth, suggesting a rainy and stormy afternoon.
As far as air traffic is concerned, airlines taking off and landing in Saint-Barth are likely to put their operations on hold throughout Thursday. "Winair is taking stock of the situation mid-day, to decide whether or not to schedule afternoon flights," says Fabrice Danet. Since then, Winair has decided to operate flights. A Tradewind flight has also been accommodated. For the time being, Air Antilles is not flying this Thursday.
