Transat Paprec - A race to lose your bearings
The suspense is at its peak. In less than 24 hours, the 17 crews still competing in the 17th edition of the Transat are expected to cross the finish line in Saint-Barth. However, it is still impossible to get close to the podium contenders. For this final sprint, 16 boats are within 60 miles (111 km) of the goal distance. All this, while being aligned over 60 miles laterally from north to south. In this race, which is already shaping up to be historic, the twists and turns are coming thick and fast, leaving the skippers no respite. This Wednesday, the supporters of the southern route had taken control of the race. Demain (Martin Le Pape and Mathilde Géron) led the dance, ahead of Décrochons la Lune (Romain Bouillard and Irina Gracheva), Région Bretagne - CMB Océane (Victor Le Pape and Estelle Greck) and Faun (Adrien Simon and Chloe Le Bars). One night later, the trend reversed. The more northern troupe returned to the forefront, led by Cap Saint-Barth in 1st place. They are closely followed by Hellowork (3rd), Selencia - Cerfrance (4th) as well as Décrochons La Lune (5th). Despite their position further south, Skipper Macif is clinging to second place. Enough to get a little lost, as Romain Bouillard jokes: "At the beginning we were in the North, then we slipped to the South of the North, then we went back to the North of the South... Isn't that a story that makes you lose your way?"
