After months of preparation, the long-awaited day has finally arrived. This Sunday, April 20, the 19 crews taking part in the Transat Paprec set off from the port of Concarneau for the open sea. In rather calm seas, but mild conditions with 10 to 15 knots of north-westerly wind, the Figaro Bénéteau 3s lined up on the starting line. At 1:02 p.m., the signal sounded at sea and on the radios to start the race. For over an hour, crews elbowed their way across the water in Port-la-Forêt Bay to make their mark on the coastal course. At the first buoy, Cap Saint-Barth took second place. The crew of Cindy Brin and Thomas André took the lead at the second mark of the course. A position they held right to the end, as they headed off towards Les Glénan.
The Cap Saint-Barth crew was soon overtaken by the competition favourites: Jules Ducelier and Sophie Faguet (Région Normandie), closely followed by Charlotte Yven and Hugo Dhallenne (Skipper Macif). Although the first night was tough on Cindy, who lost count of the number of times she threw up, the duo managed to stay in the top ten. With the fleet so close together, the rankings are constantly changing. At midday (Paris time), the duo (Demain) with Martin Le Pape and Mathilde Géron were in the lead, while Cindy and Thomas were in 7th place. After a morning in a 17-20 knot north-westerly, the fleet will slow down this afternoon with a less sustained 10 knots and a less favorable wind angle.
