Saint-Barth - Sea Index

The port of Gustavia joins the Sea Index network

The Port of Gustavia has joined the network of the Superyacht Eco Association (SEA) Index, a non-profit organization historically founded by the Yacht Club de Monaco and Crédit Suisse "to support a more sustainable future for yachting". The port's integration was formalized in mid-November by the co-signature of a partnership agreement in Paris between Bernard d'Alessandri, president of the Yacht Club d'Monaco, and the Crédit Suisse Group.Alessandri, President of Sea Index and General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco, and the President of the Collectivité, Xavier Lédée.
For Sea Index, this new partnership marks a strategic expansion into the French West Indies and reinforces its role as a leader in sustainable yachting across the Atlantic. It is also in line with its mission to measure and minimize the environmental impact of superyachts.
For Saint-Barthélemy, which has asked to join the network, there is no financial investment involved. However, as port manager Ernest Brin explains, it does entail an obligation: "We give priority berths to boats that are members of the association, because they have moral priority. If we have two ships coming in, even if they don't arrive at the same time and whatever their respective sizes, the one with the Sea Index card will have priority. "Joining the Sea Index is a source of satisfaction for Ernest Brin. "It will help to enhance the image of the port of Gustavia," he assures us.

"Prestige and responsibility
On the Sea Index website, the arrival of the Port of Gustavia is heralded with equal satisfaction. As an institutional member, the Port of Gustavia is actively committed to promoting SEA Index's CO? emissions assessment tool, enabling yacht owners, captains and charterers to calculate and understand the carbon footprint of their vessels," it states. This tool enables industry players to make informed decisions, combining prestige and sustainability. Together, SEA Index and the Port of Gustavia will implement an incentive program to attract the lowest CO? emitting yachts, rewarding environmental performance and setting a new standard for Caribbean marinas. This initiative testifies to a vision of the future where prestige and responsibility come together. "
Saint-Barthélemy is the first Caribbean port to join the organization.
