Sailing - An intense week of learning and smiles

Organized by the Saint-Barth Yacht Club, young sailors took part in Winter Camp, an Optimist training course with international coach Didier Butault during the end-of-year holidays. It was a truly international event, with young sailors from Sint Maarten, Saint Martin, Belgium, and the Netherlands, not to mention the young sailors from the SBYC.

During the nine-day course, the young sailors enjoyed mostly "light" conditions, ideal for refining their technique. There was a little more wind on the last two days, but not enough to "work on all racing situations," points out Cindy Brin, SBYC coach. She adds: "This training course covered all the essential aspects of a regatta: starts, sailing and adjustments, strategy and reading the water, managing effort and concentration in competition. Significant progress was observed throughout the course in an atmosphere that was both serious and friendly."
