Sailing: Marvin Fébrissy Gréaux at the Figaro National Championship

College life is comfortable, but not comfortable enough to keep Marvin Fébrissy Gréaux there for long. After his first competitive experience on a Figaro Bénéteau 3 during L’Aventura (JSB 1677 and 1679), the young (17-year-old) sailor, a member of the Saint-Barth Yacht Club, is continuing his training and preparation for the 2027 edition of the Transat Paprec in the mixed double-handed category. On Friday, October 9, Marvin set sail in the National Figaro with a crew he knows very well. Indeed, for this event organized by the Figaro Beneteau Class in partnership with the Lorient Nautical Center, Marvin will sail with Jules Fortunati, a native of Saint-Barthélemy, and Alix Martin—both 17-year-old members of the La Rochelle Sailing Center—as well as Damien Cloarec, owner of the Figaro Team St. Barth.
The Figaro National Crewed Championship, an event highly regarded by offshore racing enthusiasts, has for many years allowed newcomers to the Figaro class to take a sort of “trial run.” Since 2022, when the event was based in Lorient, an average of 18 crews have participated in the National. This year, no fewer than 28 crews will be battling it out through Sunday, October 11. Among them are some big names in offshore racing, such as Cammas, Bourgnon, and Laperche, who are sure to spur on the competitive spirit of Marvin, Jules, Alix, and Damien!
This Friday, Team St. Barth’s Figaro finished the first day of racing in 23rd place. The National continues tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday. A series of demanding and highly competitive regattas lies ahead, during which the young sailors of Team St. Barth—aboard the Figaro Bénéteau chartered by the Territorial Collectivity of Saint Barth in preparation for the 2027 transatlantic race—will need to demonstrate their full technical mastery. Challenging days lie ahead, but they will be rich in experience and lessons for Marvin Fébrissy Gréaux and his crewmates.
