Accompanied by their coach, Cindy Brin, the delegation of eight young sailors from the Saint Barth Yacht Club (SBYC) "Competition Team" returned from the international regatta, the Opti Cup Cap d'Agde (October 27-31) with a gold medal and two qualifications for the Spring International Cup.
A podium finish in the Benjamins category. Finishing 22nd overall in his category out of 77 registered sailors, Ethan Blanchet took first place in the 1st year Benjamins class. "I'm really proud of him. He had a superb regatta," smiled Cindy Brin, who also singled out Axel Vanden Eynde's performance. Axel finished in 44th place after only 3 months of training with the Public club. "It's a performance for Axel and a progression that's just huge. "
Minimes
With their sights set on selection for the Optimist International Spring Cup in Carantec (Finistère - April 2 to 19, 2026), the SBYC minimes - Lourenço Rolo Coutinho and Lourenço Rolo Coutinho - will be taking part in the first edition of the Optimist International Spring Cup. Lourenço Rolo Couto Jorge, Stanley Haes, Tao Carmona Bouvrais, Lewis Maxor, Léo Favreau and Nathanaël Basset - competed against the 206 registered sailors. "The kids put in some superb performances," says Cindy Brin. Stanley Haes and Lourenço Rolo Couto Jorge achieved their objectives, finishing 19th and 22nd respectively. Tao Carmona Bouvrais finished 39th overall, but 26th in the Minimes Boys. "Knowing that only the top 25 finishers qualify. Tao is therefore in first place on the waiting list in case anyone drops out," adds Cindy. But don't worry, the young sailors will have a second chance to get their C. I.P. entry ticket.I.P. de Carantec at the Semaine Nautique de Schoelcher, to be held in Martinique from February 14 to 17.
Goal of the month
In the waters off Saint-Barth, Optimist and Ilca sailors from Saint-Martin, Sint Maarten and Saint-Barth will take part on November 15 in the first of 7 legs of the Raymond Magras championship.
Then, at the end of the month, it's off to Sint-Maarten for the Budget Marine. "An opportunity to work on all aspects on the starting line and for the little newcomers, it remains a performance objective."
