For the 57th year, the world’s sailing elite gathered in Hyères from April 18 to 25 for Olympic Week, organized by the French Sailing Federation. Among the 800 athletes from 60 nations who came to compete in the second leg of the sailing Grand Slam was a representative from Saint Barthélemy and the Saint Barth Yacht Club, Jules Fortunati.
Starting in the middle of the pack aboard an ILCA 7, Jules finished the competition in 124th place out of 138 entrants. “A result that doesn’t quite meet my expectations yet,” explains the sailor. “But despite everything, I had some very good races, managing to compete at the front of the pack.” He adds: “A World Cup featuring the world’s elite—a very enriching experience. I’m coming away with some good areas to focus on for the future.” ” And the future is imminent, as the SBYC member will compete in the World Cup in Kiel, Germany, in June. “With a spot in the Youth World Sailing Championships up for grabs,” he notes. An extra motivation for Jules Fortunati, if he needed any!
