The swimmer plans to swim from Saint Barth to Saint Martin, a distance of about 25 kilometers. The swim is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 16, at 5 a.m.
Swimming around the island wasn’t enough for him (JSB1652). Lukas Outil is embarking on a new adventure: swimming from Saint Barth to Saint Martin. The island-based athlete is taking on this challenge to pay tribute to his coach. Didier Icheck, who passed away on June 5, was Lukas’s coach and mentor in Guadeloupe. He had also trained Lukas for his swim around the island, which Lukas completed on February 8 in six hours, forty-eight minutes, and fifteen seconds. For the August 16 challenge, Lukas hopes to reach Saint Martin in under 7 hours and 30 minutes. “It’s a straight line with the current at my back, so it’s not the same level of effort,” explains the newly certified lifeguard. To tackle this challenge, Lukas trains every day for two to three hours. The 24-year-old swimmer is “very motivated” to complete this project. Thanks to his swim around the island, he says he feels “stronger and more confident.” If weather conditions are favorable, the swim will begin on August 16 at 5 a.m. on Colombier Beach. The finish is scheduled, ideally, for 7:30 a.m. on Boardwalk Beach in Philipsburg, on the neighboring island. Deeply committed to environmental causes, the young man from Saint Barthélemy is keen to highlight the Territorial Environmental Agency (ATE) in connection with this challenge, with the aim of working “together to protect the oceans and the seabed.”
