Triathlon: Three finishers in North Carolina

Saint-Barthélemy had three representatives in North Carolina to take part in the Ironman 70.3 in Wilmington: Aude Vermillard and Nicolas Ganzer from Saint-Barth Triathlon, as well as Philippe Masseglia. The three triathletes managed to complete the race, which consisted of a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 90-kilometer bike ride and a 21.1-kilometer run. Half the official Ironman distance.
Aude Vermillard came 28th in her age category (40-44), 215th in the women's category and 1,050th overall. All this in a time of 5 hours 44 minutes. The athlete comments on her race: "It was a 7:30 a.m. start for me, with an outside temperature of 11°C, but a surprisingly warm water temperature of 21°C. With this cold, I never thought it would be so pleasant, I even came close to swimming in socks! Fortunately, a great current helped us on the 1,900-meter swim. When we got out of the water, the sun was shining, but it was still bitterly cold and windy, so we set off on the bike on a four-lane road for 40 kms. The temperature gently warmed up, but the morning chill persisted. Fortunately, my new gloves and windbreaker saved the day! On the run, what a crazy American atmosphere. Between the city and the fir forest, we were carried along by their cheers! The sound of bells, DJs, music... I loved the smell of the fir trees and the freshness, a real comfort for running. In the end, despite an obvious lack of training, I had a bit of a hard time, but I expected it! "
Nicolas Ganzer finished the race in 5h38mn30s. He came 73rd in his age category (50-54), 746th in the men's category and 958th overall. "The club is proud of you," commented Saint-Barth Triathlon on a social network. The island's third triathlete finished the event in 31st place in his category (M60-64) with a time of 6h01mn36s.
Next up for the island's triathlon club is an open-water swim relay race on October 27, with an "Australian-style" outing. This means that, after a swimming sequence, athletes leave the water for a running section before diving back into the water. "A fun race", says SBH Triathlon, with a draw for the teams. Registration is available online, on the SBH Triathlon Facebook page.
