For his first Half Ironman, Alexis Wozniak from Saint-Barth Triathlon headed for the USA, to be precise the Eastern Shore of Maryland. And it's at the start of the Ironman 70.3 Eagleman that we find him on Sunday June 8, for the 113.1 km of races divided into three disciplines, 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 kilometers of cycling and 21.1 kilometers of running, along with 2123 other international triathletes.
Here's his story: "A few months ago, I was due to start the 70.3 in Puerto Rico... A knee injury decided otherwise. Suffice to say that I arrived at Eagleman with a strong desire to do well. The stress was there when I woke up, but once I got there, it turned into excitement. The American atmosphere, the national anthem, the crowd... everything was in place for a great race. For the first discipline, swimming, I chose to swim in control, a little under the plan, but without forcing myself. The water was cool and the sensations were good. The aim is to keep my strength up. Then the bike section: overcast skies, good conditions. I respect my power zone despite the long straights that make you want to push. There's a headwind at times, but I don't panic, even though my speed can suddenly drop. And to conclude the running section: where I can make the difference. I start by managing my pace to get a feel for the day, then gradually build up to my target pace (4'15-4'20/km). My legs are responding well and I'm feeling good, so from the 16th km onwards I gradually pick up the pace, finishing the last kilometer in 3'54/km. At the finish, a mixture of relief, joy and emotion. The feeling of having finally put months of hard work into practice. A full race, with no regrets. Now I have a base. And it's only just begun! "He crossed the line after 4h42'33 of effort, placing 28th out of 193 triathletes in his 30/34 age category.
