There's an old adage that travel shapes youth. This is particularly true for young athletes. Particularly those of the Saint-Barth Tennis Club. From February 27 to March 8, six children accompanied by their coach Lorenza Guillou flew to Martinique to take part in three tournaments. The merry band was made up of Jared Bourjac, Léo Landron, Kai Beckers, Sam Landron, Axel Gouiran and Jao Garand. Out of 56 matches played, 35 were won and 21 lost. The club noted a "very fine performance" by its pupils at the AS Country tournament, with a victory for Jared Bourjac in the 11-12 age category, a finalist place (11-12 age group) for Léo Landron, and a "very fine first place" at the orange tournament for Jao Garand, who also played in two other finals, losing at the Diamant and La Plaine tournaments. Kai Beckers also made a fine start to the tournament, but was unable to maintain his level of play for the rest of the tour. The club underlines the fact that Sam Landron was "highly motivated throughout the tour despite the difficulty of his matches, as he was playing in a higher category". As for Axel Gouiran, he had "a difficult start to the tour", but was "dynamic and motivated" throughout. "It was an enriching experience that enabled us all to grow together," says Laurenza Guillou with satisfaction. From March 7 to 9, Léo Landron and Jared Bourjac were back at it again, this time in Guadeloupe for the individual youth championships. They both lost at the quarter-final stage. "Despite a hard-fought match from Léo, which he lost 11/9 in the super tie-break," says the club, which emphasizes the "good attitude" of its two young representatives.
SBTC women's team stops in ½ final
The team championship came to a halt in the semi-finals for the Saint-Barth Tennis Club women's team. On March 8, in Guadeloupe, the Saint-Barthélemy players gave in with panache against their opponents from TC Petit Canal, having won two matches but lost three others. The following day, still in Guadeloupe and facing TC Lamentin, the players played a play-off match. Unfortunately, the opposition was too strong and the SBTC team lost by three wins to one. "After all these matches, which were fiercely contested, good spirit prevailed throughout the championship", commented the club management, who congratulated their player Aliénor Barbé-Guillaume on her two singles victories, before adding: "Well done girls! "The SBTC women's team will continue to play in the second division next season.
