Tennis / SBTC Falls to Montauban

One win and four losses. The Saint-Barth Tennis Club women’s team’s debut in the first division was no walk in the park. On Saturday, October 3, the Saint-Barth players hosted the Montauban-Gosier Tennis Club (Guadeloupe) on the courts at the Saint-Jean sports complex. It was a difficult start for the SBTC women, who nevertheless defended the club’s colors valiantly.
Facing a young player from Montauban (age 14, ranked 15/1), Julie Hodge (30/1) came very close to pulling off an upset. But after winning the first set (6-2), she was unable to unsettle her opponent, who took the second set (6-1) and then the super tiebreak (10-4). Maëlle Servanton (30/2) and Aïda Giraud (30/3) were unable to put up the same fight against superior opponents (15/1 and 15/4), as they were outclassed in two sets (1-6, 1-6 and 2-6, 0-6). Only Serena Estenave (30/3), after a long baseline battle against a much higher-ranked player (15/4), managed to win her singles match: 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
With nothing at stake other than earning an extra point and putting on a good show, the doubles match was won by Justine Fourquet and Mélissa Vignon of Montauban against Julie Hodge and Amélie Huart (6-3, 6-3).
For their next team match, the SBTC women’s team will travel to Guadeloupe on October 17 to face the Tie Break Tennis Club of Petit Bourg.
